Addiction: Genetics and the Brain was produced by the Genetic Science Learning Center (GSLC) in collaboration with advisors, experts, and teachers from Utah and across the country.

This work was created in two phases. The first phase, published in 2006, was supported by a Science Education Drug Abuse Partnership Award (SEDAPA), from The National Institute on Drug Abuse, National Institutes of Health; Grant Number R25DA15461.

The second phase, published in 2019, was funded by the Utah State Board of Education. This work included adding new materials about opioids, pain, and treatment, and updating the 2006 materials.
